About Cognitive Behavior Therapy:

My approach to therapy is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). CBT was first developed through research and study in the 1960s. It is still the most well researched therapy. CBT is an effective therapy strategy for various mental health issues including: PTSD, depression, anxiety, grief, phobias, and others. CBT is a combination of two therapeutic approaches cognitive therapy and behavioral therapy. CBT is typically a shorter-term therapy model. Some people feel better after just a few sessions and others feel better after a few months. Sometimes it’s necessary to use CBT in addition to other treatment options such as an evaluation for medication with your doctor or a psychiatrist. It is important to note that not every mental health issue or person can be treated with CBT or through online therapy. In the beginning the therapist conducts an initial assessment to gather the client’s presenting problems and a brief history; this also helps determine if online therapy is right for you.

Therapist Bio

I began my work in the field of human behavior as a youth advocate. I continued working with children and families for several years. I earned a Masters of Social Work. I enjoyed working in nursing homes and with children as I completed my clinical hours and later when I became a LCSW. I started providing mental health therapy in 2000. I spent the next 18 years working in my field. I went into private practice for about 7-8 of those years. I enjoyed working with children and families as a play therapist and treating individuals struggling with: PTSD, depression, anxiety, grief, work related stress, and other mental health issues. Later, I worked as an adjunct instructor at a community college for about 10 years. I have worked with people of all ages, and with varying spiritual and cultural backgrounds.
